Sad day for Recreational Soccer

It is with great sadness that Jeff Ahner, coach of the G98 Fire, announced that their team would not be coming back for the Fall 2014 season. So many of the girls are moving on to HS Soccer this year and we are certain that they will make Salmon Creek proud as they use the skills Jeff taught them to be successful for several area High Schools.

Coach Ahner had this to say about his team, "The first year I coached the Fire, we lost every single game. From that to our last few successful seasons, we have really grown as a team. But, more importantly, each and every girl has grown - and not just in soccer. You have all worked hard and improved your soccer skills tremendously. Along the way, and what I am the most proud of as a coach, I have seen each and every one of you develop as a person. Your teamwork, your ability to support each other, your courage in the face of tough conditions and challenges, your perseverance, your confidence in yourself and what you can do - each and every girl on this team is someone I am proud to have coached."

His parents also commented on the teams growth. "...You have taught the girls more than just how to play soccer. You have additionally enriched them with all the good things that make us human. Love, compassion, hard work, enjoyment, teamwork, helping others, setting goals, respect, good sportsmanship, achieving success, learning from failure, being connected, serving others, love of sport, developing technical ability, kindness and many other traits inherit in the program and team you help create and promote...." "... We have watched an unsure eleven year old girl trying to chase and kick a ball to seeing a more confident fourteen year old young lady know what she and her teammates have to do to win and how they can rely on each other to accomplish more together than they imagined...There are so many moments that we can reflect back on with joy, but the one we have enjoyed the most is as the start of each game hearing you yell "ARE WE READY TO WIN" and hear all of the girls respond with "YEAHHHH!!!!". From a parent's point of view, they won before they stepped on the field...." ...one thing I will never forget is that you showed up at the hospital after my kids injury, that demonstrates a lot not only as a coach but as a person that really cares about his team members..."

Coach Ahner is one of those people who gives of himself completely and, as coach coordinator, I was aways grateful when he was willing to mentor and share his knowledge and love of coaching with our newbies. I sincerely hope that Jeff with remain a part of this club in some capacity as we move into a new season.
